Former Jersey Shore cast-member, Angelina Pivarnick, has changed her stance on equal marriage, after a debate this week during which she said she didn’t think gay people should be allowed to get married.

In a new interview with TMZ, the television personality apologised for her original comments, saying she realised they may have seemed offensive or ignorant to some. She said:

“I apologise to anyone I may have offended … Many of my gay friends reached out to me afterward … to inform me of how ignorant my comments were.

“I wouldn’t want anyone to tell me that I couldn’t marry the person I loved, and I don’t want to do that to anyone else regardless of sexual orientation.

“I think other people like me can have their minds changed once they meet gay couples and families. We shouldn’t ban love or marriage for a happy couple. That is UNAMERICAN!”

As well as apologising, Ms Pivarnick has agreed to work with pro-marriage equality group, the Imperial Court of NY, on a fundraiser in November.

The online debate, titled, Should Gay Marriage Be Legal, was shown online by Deyoon.com, featured Adam Barta, musician and actor, who argued for equal marriage, and Ms Pivarnick argued against.

She had said: “I don’t think gays should be married. If you want to date each other fine, see how it works. In the end, they should marry their other type.”

Adam Barta Tweeted shortly after the debate saying: “My big gay marriage debate w/Jersey Shore’s @angelinamtvjs! It’s SO cool to debate like this”

According to BuzzFeed, Ms Pivarnick was removed from Jersey Shore for “being too boring”, and according to her Twitter feed, she had plans to get a job working in television again.
