Modern Family continued its run as US TV’s most honoured comedy at Sunday’s Emmys, winning the best comedy award for the third year in a row.

Eric Stonestreet, who plays gay father Cameron Tucker, spoke of how the cast “loved” working together in a red carpet interview with PrimetimeEmmys.

The show, which features a gay couple as two of the central characters, has won four Emmys including outstanding comedy series.

Modern Family also took the comedy series awards for outstanding director (Steven Levitan), supporting actress (Julie Bowen) and supporting actor Eric Stonestreet.

“I’m praying that everybody doesn’t get sick of us,” Levitan said backstage.

Earlier this month, Modern Family’s Jesse Tyler Ferguson, who plays Mitchell Pritchett in the show, announced his engagement to his boyfriend Justin Mikita. The couple also revealed they had established a charitable fashion line to promote marriage equality.
