HIV and sexual health charity Terrence Higgins Trust has released a short film clip, in which an assortment of British and international athletes talk openly about sex and condoms.

Its release comes at the end of the UK’s summer of sport, during which a record 150,000 condoms were handed out to Olympic athletes in London – nearly 15 per competitor.

The athletes interviewed for the clip are: Christine Hartigan (triathlete), Natalie Barnard (triathlete), Roger Skedd (decathlete), Simon Alebiosu (judo) and Tushar Patel (wheelchair athletics).

Genevieve Edwards, director of health Improvement at Terrence Higgins Trust, said: “People often look to sportspeople for advice on how to stay healthy, and of course there’s no reason why sexual health shouldn’t be part of that.

“Whatever your own level of prowess, using a condom during sex will give you the best sporting chance against unplanned pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections, including HIV.”
