The hunt for a man who is believed to have murdered and dismembered a male lover and sent parts of his body to government officials has continued today.

Luka Rocco Magnotta, 29, is being sought by Montreal authorities who believe he may have fled to France, the BBC reports.

Reports say Mr Magnotta is believed to have killed his lover, a 33-year-old Chinese student by the name Jun Lin and posted parts of his body to Canadian political parties from his home in Montreal.

French police were uncertain that he had entered the country today.

Montreal police commander Ian Lafrenière said at a press conference: “All I can tell you know is that he left Montreal [and] he may have returned under another identify but we’re engaged in a worldwide search. We don’t know exactly which identity he used to travel. He has three different ones.”

Mr Magnotta was also known as Eric Clinton Newman and Vladimir Romanov. He is white, 5ft 8in (1.73m) tall with blue eyes and black hair.

Reports of the case say he had worked as a bisexual porn actor and identified himself as such online.

An arrest warrant confirms Mr Magnotta is wanted for second-degree murder and charges of indignity to human remains.

Links have been established in media reports with a video which appeared online and showed a man, believed now to be Mr Magnotta, killing two kittens.

Mr Magnotta is being sought after another video, reported to show the killing and dismemberment of Jun Lin along with acts of necrophilia and cannibalism, was posted online.

Despite efforts to remove the film, it has reportedly been duplicated and posted on multiple websites.

Commander Lafrenière said: “That scares me a bit about human beings. I don’t understand how people could be interested in watching that […] It’s not an actor. It’s someone getting killed and mutilated.”
