A spokesman for Ricky Martin has denied the musician will marry his partner Carlos Gonzalez Abella in New York on 28 January.

The El Nuevo Dia in Puerto Rico reported that the singer would tie the knot in the north-eastern US state, but the claim has been unequivocally denied.

A spokesman told news outlets the South American paper has published “a completely incorrect report”.

Speculation about whether the couple would marry has been rife. Martin himself has said he would marry in his native Puerto Rico if they legalised marriage equality.

In November 2011, he was granted Spanish citizenship, with Spanish newspaper El Pais reporting that Martin sought citizenship in order to marry boyfriend Carlos Gonzalez Abella, with whom he is bringing up his twin three-year-old sons.

Martin, 40, spoke about his partner for the first time at the GLAAD Awards in March 2011, saying: “Today I can say that I am free and, therefore, definitely I have to thank my parents for supporting me so much and for their unconditional love, my friends, my family, my fans and my partner and boyfriend, Carlos.”

The state of New York legalised marriages between gay couples in June of 2011.
