Lady Gaga takes male alter-ego to VMAs

Jessica Geen August 30, 2011

Lady Gaga attended last night’s MTV Video Music Awards as her male alter-ego, Joe Calderone.

Sporting a cigarette, stubble and a black quiff, the singer performed new hit You and I with Queen guitarist Brian May, as well as picking up three MTV awards for best female performer, best female video and best message video for her song, Born This Way.

Accepting the honour, Gaga said: “I feel so blessed to be here. It doesn’t matter how you are – gay, straight, bi, lesbian, transgendered – you were born this way.”

‘Joe’ recently appeared on the cover of Japanese Vogue. Gaga has described him as a chain-smoking mechanic from Sicily.
