The late gay designer Alexander McQueen‘s fashion label is to design Kate Middleton’s wedding dress for marriage to Prince William according to the Sunday Times.

The newspaper calls its scoop the “fashion secret of the year”, it claims that that Miss Middleton will wear a dress designed by Sarah Burton, the creative designer of Alexander McQueen, founded by the openly gay fashion designer of the same name who committed suicide last year.

A fashion source told the newspaper that the dress will be combination of Miss Middleton’s own ideas and Ms Burton’s “deep knowledge and understanding of high fashion.”

Jonathan Akeroyd, chief executive of Alexander McQueen, reportedly a colleague that he had got the commission, although he denied this when asked by the Sunday Times. “No, not at all, I am the CEO. I would know if we were doing it,” he told the paper. Designers of previous royal wedding dresses have been bound by secrecy by Buckingham Palace.

Alexander McQueen designed the wedding dress for Sara Buys who married Prince William’s step brother Tom Parker Bowles in 2005.

McQueen took a cocktail of drugs including cocaine before hanging himself the day before his mother’s funeral in February of 2010. He had a history of depression and anxiety and had researched how to commit suicide on the internet before he died.

The 40-year-old had taken cocaine, sleeping pills and tranquillisers before his body was found by his cleaner.
