Republican senator John McCain’s wife Cindy appears in a new video which attacks the ban on out gay soldiers.

The is not the first time Mrs McCain has supported LGBT campaigns. In the latest ad, she appears to be suggesting that her husband is partly responsible for the homophobic bullying with has led to a number of gay teenage suicides.

Mr McCain, a senator for Arizona, has been leading efforts to oppose repealing Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell in the senate. He has said he will filibuster a bill similar to one which passed in the House this year.

In the NOH8 video, Mrs McCain says: “Our political and religious leaders tell LGBT youth that they have no future. . . They can’t serve our country openly.”

Referring to bullies, she asks rhetorically: “Our government treats the LGBT community like second class citizens – why shouldn’t they?”

The video also features Denise Richards, Gene Simmons and Kat Von D.

In January, Mrs McCain and her daughter Meghan appeared in ads endorsing gay marriage rights.

They were photographed with duct tape across their mouths and ‘NOH8′ written on their cheeks. NOH8 is the name of the campaign against Proposition 8, which banned gay marriage in California.
