Julianne Moore, the actress who starred in gay love story A Single Man, has called for full marriage equality in the US.

The star is supporting national campaigns, as well as those in her hometown of New York, to give the right to gay couples.

She told WENN.com: “Absolutely, everyone should have the same rights. It’s a right, no one should be denied that.”

Moore is playing a lesbian character in her upcoming film The Kids Are All Right. Her partner will be played by Annette Bening.

Another New York-based star to call for gay marriage is Cynthia Nixon, the Sex and the City actress. She hopes to marry her girlfriend Christine Marinioni in the city.

New York does not allow gay marriage, although it recognises marriages performed in other states.
