Two female teachers at an American high school will face misconduct charges after a janitor allegedly saw them having sex in a classroom.

Alini Brito, 30, and Cindy Mauro, 34, were allegedly caught naked in a classroom in November while the rest of the James Madison High School in Brooklyn, new York, was watching a performance.

Janitor Robert Colantuoni said he saw the pair and informed school staff. He apparently believed they were students.

Following his claims, Ms Brito, who is married, and Ms Mauro were taken off teaching duties and an investigation was launched.

Yesterday, education department officials confirmed that enough evidence was found for them to face disciplinary charges. Spokeswoman Margie Feinberg said: “We are in the process of charging them with misconduct.”

When the news of the allegations broke, school students took to the internet to discuss their shock at the lewd allegations. However, some defended the Romance language teachers, saying a male and female couple would have been treated differently.

Lawyers for the pair say they “categorically deny the salacious allegations.”

“They are both exemplary teachers whose reputations and careers are being irreparably harmed by unfounded rumours and innuendo,” a statement said.

Another teacher at the school, Allison Musacchio, has already been charged with misconduct. According to the Daily News, she was accused of having a sexual relationship with a male pupil.

The charges follow two other incidents of staff being accused of sexual offences this year.
