Portia de Rossi, the wife of Ellen DeGeneres, has revealed she is writing a tell-all autobiography.

The Ally McBeal and Arrested Development actress said she would pen the book herself, rather than resorting to a ghostwriter.

The star suffered a well-documented eating disorder in the late 1990s and admitted her weight had dropped to less than six stone.

She played Nelle Porter in Ally McBeal between 1998 and 2002 and was outed in 2001 when tabloid photos of her kissing girlfriend Francesca Gregorini were published.

De Rossi told Advocate magazine: “I’m writing a book. It’ll be published in the fall, so… I have to be done with it before then. It will deal with all the secrets that nearly killed me. Nobody can really get inside the anorexic’s mind like the anorexic.”

She added that DeGeneres, who she married in 2008, had encouraged her to begin the work.

She said: “My mother thought I would be a writer. When I started writing little notes to Ellen, she said, ‘You should be a writer.’ Which is very encouraging and very sweet.”
