Elton John has offered his fans refunds after it was announced that a string of cancelled UK tour dates will not be rescheduled.

The singer was forced to miss gigs in London, Liverpool, Sheffield and Newcastle after he was hospitalised with flu and an E.coli infection.

A spokesman from his promoter, Marshall Arts, said: “Sadly, due to venue availability and the scale of the Red Piano show, these shows cannot be rescheduled and have now been cancelled.”

Those with tickets should contact the outlet they bought them from to get a refund.

Last week, the singer spoke about his time in hospital.

At the annual gala for his AIDS charity, he said: “The worst thing about being in the hospital was that it’s the first time I’ve been in bed for about nine days in the whole of my life.”

He added that he hated having to cancel shows but said: “I’m back on my feet and I’m bouncing around now.”
