Openly gay pop star George Michael was arrested by police in the early hours of yesterday morning following a collision with a lorry it has been revealed.

The singer was arrested on suspicion of driving while under the influence of drink or drugs after his vehicle was involved in the incident on the A34 road in Berkshire.

Lawrie Rowe, 43, who was driving in another lorry claimed in an interview with the The Sun newspaper that the singer was “must have been doing 100mph. When he got out he couldn’t walk straight.”

“There was no movement from his car for what seemed like 10 minutes, ” he told the newspaper. “I was really shaken and thought someone had died.”

“Eventually the guy got out of his car. He came over to my cab and asked if I had stopped to give him a lift. I was stunned.

“He was absolutely not with it, so I told him no. But he insisted and came around the other side of the truck and tried to get in the passenger door.

“When it finally dawned on him that i wouldn’t give in, he walked off down the verge.”

Michael was later taken to a nearby police station but was released without charge.

In 2007 the singer was banned for driving for two years after he was convicted of driving while unfit as a result of drug use.
