A teacher at a private London school has been accused of having a lesbian affair with a 15-year-old pupil.

The music teacher was arrested on Monday. She was named today as Helen Goddard, 26, from Greenwich, and is now on police bail.

Parents at the £13,000-a-year City of London school were given the news in a text message.

Police first said she was arrested for ‘sexual assault’, but yesterday changed this to ‘sexual activity with a child’.

Head teacher Diana Vernon wrote on the school’s website that staff had reported the matter to the police, describing it as “an alleged inappropriate relationship with one of our students”.

Her mobile phone has been confiscated as evidence.

Goddard played the trumpet at the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games in Sydney in 2000.

She is currently thought to be on holiday with her parents.

A neighbour told the Daily Mail: “Helen is such a quiet girl and all we heard was that she was in a spot of trouble after something happened at her school in London.

“Her parents have acted in a very protective way and I think they believe it’s a misunderstanding and it will all eventually be sorted out.”
