American Idol runner up Adam Lambert ‘to address sexuality rumours’

Jessica Geen May 29, 2009

Singing star Adam Lambert is said to be on the verge of speaking out about his sexuality, according to a recent Twitter update from American Idol’s host Ryan Seacrest.

Referring to winner Kris Allen and runner-up Lambert, he twittered: “What up adam and kris! crushing it on the today show! Btw adam will address the sexuality speculation soon. They are both superstars!”

Before the final, audiences had predicted that ‘Glambert’, as he has been dubbed, would easily walk away with the American Idol title, beating his devout Christian rival Kris Allen.

Yet speculation over his sexual orientation could allegedly have affected the outcome of the vote-dependent contest. “Probably” was Lambert’s resigned reply when questioned by Rolling Stone over whether rumours that he is gay may have affected the contest’s final vote.

Some commentators have suggested America may not have been ready for what it perceived to be a ‘gay’ American Idol.

With photographs of Lambert in drag and kissing men appearing in the media, he would have found it increasingly difficult to deny the rumours. He chose to keep a dignified silence on the matter, saying “I know who I am…and I’m going to keep on singing”.

While this simply kept rumour-mongers guessing all the more about his true status, they may get their answer in the near future if Ryan Seacroft’s twittering is anything to go by.
