A 19-year-old drag queen has been sentenced to 14 months in a young offenders’ institute after making a bomb threat to WH Smith’s head office.

Joel Broad, who lives in Banbury, Oxfordshire, regularly appears as Tammy Tampax in venues around Swindon, Oxfordshire and Colchester.

An ex-employee of the company, he phoned the head office in September last year to say there was a bomb in the customer services.

According to reports, the hoax cost the firm £50,000 as more than 200 staff had to be evacuated.

Police traced the call to the offices of Broad’s new employer.
