New HIV and sexual health centre opens in Gloucester

A new office of sexual health charity Terrence Higgins Trust will be opened in Gloucester tomorrow.

THT said the opening is a good opportunity for service users, partner agencies and people interested in volunteering to meet the staff and discuss plans for services in the area.

Representatives from the NHS and social services, other voluntary organisations, THT volunteers and staff will all be attending the opening, which begins at 1pm.

The new office will serve the whole of Gloucestershire.

Among the services on offer are: one to one support to people living with HIV and their carers, condoms and safer sex information, information on HIV and sexually transmitted infections, support groups, health advice and counselling.

“We’re delighted to be opening an office here in Gloucester,” said Jane Morel, manager of the new centre.

“We’re looking forward to working with other organisations in the region to increase awareness of sexual health and support people who are living with HIV in the area.

“We’re also looking for volunteers who can help in a range of roles so if you’re interested please get in touch.”

The service is being transferred from Cheltenham to Gloucester the new, larger premises in the city centre has been funded by Gloucestershire County Council.
