While the country struggles under cold blasts, snow and afternoon darkness, the organisers of Bournemouth’s gay Pride event are already looking to the summer.

Bourne Free will be taking over the seaside resort for three days in 2009, from Friday 10th until July 12th.

Cloudy skies did not keep supporters away from Bournemouth’s fifth annual Bourne Free Pride Festival this year. More than 4,000 people took part.

The Bourne Free is a “colourful celebration of equality and diversity in Bournemouth – through entertainment and awareness.”

This year’s turn out at the three day event surpassed 2007 and with the exception of a minor protest, the day was trouble free.

3,000 people to attend the Support our Services themed parade through the town.

Naughty nurses, shirtless sailors, police and firemen marched alongside open top buses, fire engines, colourful floats and a huge rainbow flag.

Even more is planned for 2009, with the Bourne Free Committee finalising a unique new theme.

Lawrence Roots, executive committee member, said:

“Every year Bourne Free gets bigger and better and 2009 will be no exception.

“The event has reached a stage where, due to rapidly growing popularity, we can make some very exciting changes.”
