Life in prison for couple convicted of murdering gay man
A 22-year-old woman from Dover and her 27-year-old boyfriend have been found guilty of the murder of David Redman.
Phillipa Hart and Christopher Graham, of Noah’s Ark Road Dover, had been drinking with Mr Redman, well known in the area as Camp David, in a pub in Dover on March 10th 2007, when they went to the seafront.
There was an argument in which Graham accused 22-year-old Mr Redman of stealing from his home.
Graham viciously attacked him, kicking and punching him and stamping on his neck.
Hart then helped drag the unconscious Mr Redman towards the sea.
At Maidstone Crow Court Judge Andrew Patience QC said Graham was “a cold-hearted psychopath acting without conscience” and called Hart wicked.
Mr Redman’s body has never been found.
Hart eventually went to police but tried to claim she only helped dispose of the body because she feared she would be attacked by Graham.
“You helped put David Redman into the sea and joined in denying him the right to a decent funeral,” Judge Patience told Hart, according to Kent Online.
She will serve a minimum of 15 years. Graham will serve a minimum of 20 years.
“We feel both the verdict and sentence passed are both right and fair,” Mr Redman’s family said in a statement.
“Our lives will never be the same again, we will always live with the knowledge that we have never had the opportunity to draw any permanent line or put a stop to this.
“We have not had the opportunity and probably never will to lay David to rest in the normal sense of the word.
“We pray that wherever he is, that he is at rest.”
