A popular LGBT event in the South West will be making a welcome return this summer. In the spirit of the more famous Glastonbury festival, the town’s pink picnic was held in 2006 but not the following year.

Now organisers have confirmed that the event will be held on 30th August in Abbey Park in Glastonbury.

Billed as a promotion of tolerance and pride, it begins at noon.

The picnic is open to everyone, not just LGBT people, and it is suggested people bringing along picnic blankets, hampers and food and drink

“We are very excited to be organising this event again,” said organiser Greg Baker.

“Glastonbury has a tradition of promoting tolerance and diversity and we hope this event can continue to build on that tradition.”

Organisers hope the pink picnic will bring the community together and highlight the challenges faced by gay people living in rural areas.
