Last minute preparations are underway in the run up to ‘Galop Big Gay Fete.’

The fete, which will take place this Saturday in St Anne’s Church, Soho, will raise funds for the Galop.org.uk, a charity, supporting research and lobbying around the issues of LGBT policing for more than 21 years.

Galop chief executive Deborah Gold told PinkNews.co.uk:

“We’re all really excited!

“People seem to think that the ‘Galop Big Gay Fete’ is an annual thing but this is actually the first year that we’ve done it.

“If it is a success, as I’m sure it will be, it is likely to become something that we do every year.”

The not so traditional village fete will take place in St Anne’s Church on Soho’s Dean Street, and admission is free.

“We’re really hoping to not just raise money but also raise awareness,” Ms Gold added,

“There’s going to be a lot of stalls.

“Among many others we going to have a fortune teller, a cake stand, treasure map, a belly dancer called Snake Boy and at 3:30pm we’re going to have gay bingo with Miss Julie.”

With stalls and events planned for both inside and out, organisers will be pleased to hear that sunshine and blue skies are forecast for the weekend.

Moreover, with cups of tea, cakes and glasses of wine in abundance, the first ever ‘Galop Big Gay Fete’ promises to be the place to be this Saturday afternoon.

Galop operates a helpline which provides advice and support to LGBT people who have experienced homophobic or transphobic hate crime or violence in the London area.

To contact Galop for help you can called the Shoutline on 020 7704 2040 or fill in an anonymous reporting form on their site.
