Poll shows Boris ahead in race for Mayor of London
The Conservative candidate for Mayor of London is well ahead of his two main rivals, according to polling carried out for the Evening Standard newspaper.
The online poll of 1,005 Londoners was conducted by YouGov.
49% said they would vote for Boris Johnson, 37% for incumbent Labour Mayor Ken Livingstone and 12% for Lib Dem candidate Brian Paddick.
17% said they had not yet decided who to vote for.
The Mayor of London is elected by the Supplementary Vote (SV) system, where voters may choose a first and second choice candidate.
The race is likely to be decided by second preference votes, which are allocated to the top two candidates from the first round.
In this most recent poll Mr Johnson was the second choice of 20% of voters with 17% for Mr Livingstone.
A poll of more than 300 PinkNews.co.uk readers last month found that support for Mr Paddick, who is gay, is strong among the LGBT community.
Of first preference votes Ken Livingstone won 37.66%, Mr Paddick 36.71%, Boris Johnson 13.29%.
Green party candidate Sian Berry took 10.13%.

Gay equality organisation Stonewall is hosting a hustings event with the candidates for Mayor of London on Saturday 19th April, the last such event before Londoners go to the polls on May 1st.
Mr Livingstone, Mr Paddick, Mr Johnson and Ms Berry will be taking part.
The Stonewall hustings will be held on Saturday 19th April between 11am and 12.30pm at the BFI Southbank, London.
