Publisher HarperCollins today confirmed that they have secured the rights to an autobiography by pop star George Michael.

The 44-year-old, who has sold in excess of 80 million records in a career spanning three decades, said through his publicist that the book would be “no holds barred.”

Although neither publisher nor publicist would reveal how much Michael is being paid for the book, industry watchers said it was certain to be millions of pounds.

The singer’s manager Andy Stephens said:

“People aren’t stupid. They’re beginning to notice that the truth is more interesting than the stories the press come up with!”

Michael is to write the book “entirely” by himself and it will cover his early career with Wham!, his life in the closet, the death of his boyfriend h Anselmo Feleppa in 1993 from an AIDS-related illness, his forced coming out after being arrested in a public toilet in Los Angeles and his recent problems with cannabis.

The as-yet untitled book, which HarperCollins today called “one of the biggest book deals ever concluded in UK publishing,” is due to appear in autumn 2009.
