Gay magazine helps bring paedophile to justice
A 22-year-old man has pleaded guilty at Swansea Crown Court to 15 counts of making indecent images of children and possessing 332 indecent photographs.
Daniel Byrne was arrested after his boyfriend became worried about his behaviour and contacted magazine Gay Times, now known as GT.
Staff at the publication told him to go to the police, who obtained a search warrant and went to the Heol-y-Graig, Clydach home of Byrne.
Sentencing him to a three-year community order and counselling sessions, Judge Keith Thomas said that people who view child pornography are “part of the industry of the sexual abuse of children which so many people are rightly appalled by.”
The ordered him to pay £420 costs and sign the sex offenders register.
The South Wales Evening Post reports that Byrne’s boyfriend had become worried when he saw images of child porn on his laptop.
He challenged Byrne, who deleted the images.
But some months later the boyfriend found that that he had been viewing more images, and wrote to Gay Times for advice.
They told him to report Byrne to the police.
