Larry Wachowski, one half of the writing-directing duo known as ‘The Wachowski Brothers’, is rumoured to have taken on a new name: Lana.

According to Rated-M.com, Wachowski, who wrote and produced 2005’s V for Vendetta and worked with brother Andy to write, direct and produce the 1999 blockbuster The Matrix and its sequels, began hormone treatment more than three years ago and “the major aspects of the surgery have been complete for some time.”

The duo will now be known as ‘The Wachowskis’, the site reports, and it is rumoured that Dateline NBC has nabbed the exclusive rights to be the first to talk to Wachowski about her transformation.

No word on when the interview will take place or air on television, though Rated-M.com suggests it may have to wait until after The Wachowski’s upcoming film, a live-action take on the cartoon classic, Speed Racer, which is scheduled for release in early 2008.

This isn’t the first time Wachowski’s private life has made headlines.

Early last year Rolling Stone ran an article about the reclusive director titled, The Mystery of Larry Wachowski.

Along with proclaiming Wachowski’s life to be “stranger than fiction,” the glossy detailed his long-term relationship with a professional dominatrix.
