Beth Ditto’s band The Gossip have signed to Sony’s new gay music label.

Music With A Twist is a subsidiary of Sony Music Label Group/Columbia Records, and is designed to “identify and develop lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans-gendered artists”.

The lesbian icon’s band’s hit single “Standing in the Way of Control” will appear on the label’s compilation album entitled Twist Revolutions , due for release on 17th April.

The track was written by Ditto in response to the U.S. government’s resistance to gay marriage, and is well on its way to becoming a gay anthem.

Other artists to appear on the compilation include Kirsten Price , Ivri Lider, Jonathan Mendelsohn Wamdue Project, God-Des She, Sarah Bettens, Adam Joseph, Dylan Rice, Tangela Bell, Jesse O, and Levi Kreis.

Sony Music Label Group U.S. and Wilderness Media Entertainment joined forces in January 2006 to create Music With A Twist, which aims to release compilations with tracks from both emerging gay artists and artists who have openly supported the LGBT community.

Wilderness Media Entertainment President Matt Farber said: “TWIST will be the label where artists can take pride in their orientation as well as their artistry.

“The increasing visibility of Gay America makes this the perfect time for this venture, which will provide valuable resources to LGBT artists and market their music to the mainstream as well.”

In November 2006 Ditto topped a ‘Cool List’ of music icons.

She beat big names such as Lily Allen, Jarvis Cocker and Liam Gallagher to become the first woman to top music magazine NME’s Cool List.
