Gay performer Stephen Gately can hold his drink better than one of England’s rugby heroes, it has been revealed.

The 30-year-old singer, who came out in 1999, was actually born on the booziest day of the year, St Patrick’s Day. (17th March)

Rugby star Kyran Bracken has told The Sun newspaper that he has been mocked by fellow players after he admitted that the gay pop star drank more than him on a night out.

They are both contestants in the upcoming ITV1 reality show Dancing On Ice, which has a similar format to Strictly Come Dancing.

“I’ve been abused about the outfits but it’s been even worse since I admitted that Stephen drank more than me on a night out! Maybe I shouldn’t have mentioned it,” Bracken told the paper.

“I just hope that some of the rugby guys come along to the shows and throw bouquets of flowers to me on the ice!”

Bracken, 35, a former England international, said that he had become friends while working on the ITV programme together.

“We get on really well and I’m sure we’ll keep in touch after the series ends,” he said.

In March last year Gately married his long term partner, Andrew Cowles, in a civil ceremony in London.
