Gay charity success at National Volunteer Awards
A leading London LGBT hate crime charity has won an award for its success in the voluntary IT sector.
Lenna Cumberbatch from Galop, which is the Capital’s largest gay charity for victims of hate crime, scored runner up for Best IT Volunteer 2006 for her work developing Galop’s office computer infrastructure over the last two years.
“Lenna’s place in the final highlights the huge value that volunteers bring to Galop,” says Phil Greasley Galop’s Acting Chief Executive. “Lenna and our other volunteers play a major part in our ability to expand, drive the organisation forward and offer vastly improved services”.
The Annual ICT HUB and iT4Communities IT Volunteer Awards, which were held for the first time last night, celebrate the best and most innovative examples of IT volunteering. They are open to all charities and volunteers across the UK from all sectors.
Galop hopes that the award will send a positive message that the work of LGBT charities and their volunteers can really be recognised.
