Gay EU group launches new website
The European Parliament’s Intergroup on Gay and Lesbian Rights has launched its new website.
After having closed the portal for several weeks, the Intergroup’s website features a refreshed design, improved functions to help raise awareness and ease of communication.
A fuller brief of the work done by the Intergroup is now also available, highlighting the work done in favour of LGBT fundamental rights throughout Europe and the rest of the world.
“This new website will enable the Intergroup to become an integral part of the web-based LGBT community,” Sophie In’t Veld, Vice-President of the European Parliament’s Intergroup remarked.
“We’re confident visitors will be able to reap the full benefit of the new features ensuring the Intergroup helps improve the lives of LGBT peoples throughout the world.”
The Intergroup’s website, formerly located at www.gayandlesbianrightsintergroup.com, will have a new URL within two weeks.
The former domain name will also remain accessible. After having organised a contest, in which many entries were accepted, the Intergroup held a vote for its new URL.
The domain name https://www.lgbt-ep.eu was selected over entries such as all-equals.eu, glbt.eu, gayandlesbianintergroup.eu, and eplgbtintergroup.eu. The winning entry came from the United Kingdom. With many entries from all over Europe and beyond, the Intergroup was pleased to use this opportunity to interact with the future audience of the new website.
The released website features major improvements with its news engine. It now offers the opportunity for LGBT associations (and others) to submit news for publication directly on the website.
The public can also get in direct contact with the Intergroup through the use of the new web-based contact form. Another major feature is the Agenda, which will now offer the public an opportunity to follow the Intergroup’s agenda.
As with the news engine, the public can also submit events that they wish to see reflected on the agenda offering additional opportunities for LGBT activists to announce their events to Parliamentarians most likely to be interested in the event.
The Intergroup’s website now features a Documentation Centre accessible to the public which regroups press releases, dispatched letters, meeting minutes, and Parliamentary Questions and Answers which are forms of communication between the Parliament and the other European institutions. The Centre will quickly grow to become one of the leading records of political work done on LGBT issues.
