Police in Streatham are appealing for witnesses after a gay man was assaulted and robbed on the common near Copgate Woods in the early hours of last Friday.

Three black males attacked the man at approximately 3am as he took refuge in his car, assaulting him and stealing credit cards, which they later used to withdraw money from ATMs.

A further suspect remained in a white hatchback car before driving all four away from the scene.

The victim was treated at hospital and released later that night.

Police are mindful that Streatham Common is frequented by gay men and that late at night they may be vulnerable to crime such as theft, robbery and assault.

Lambeth’s #######, gay, bisexual and transgender liaison team have been conducting plain clothed patrols through the year to engage with the public, give personal safety information and encourage them to report crime

Lambeth Police are appealing for any witnesses to the incident to contact them in confidence. Please call the LGBT liaison team on 020 8649 2099 where you will be able to speak with a gay police officer.
