Lesbian artist headlines Outgames
Lesbian singer K D Lang and the theatre production of Cirque du Soleil have been signed up to perform at this year’s Outgames.
The Outgames will be held from 26 July to 5 August 2006 with more than 16,000 participants in the sport, cultural and International Conference programmes.
“Magic and emotion will come together for an unforgettable celebration of inclusion and openness,” said Louise Roy, chief executive of Outgames Montreal 2006.
“We’re thrilled that such internationally renowned artists have agreed to lend their incredible talents and passion to make the opening ceremony a magnificent show.”
Using the theme of a circle – a symbol of harmony, the Olympics as well as of the human form in movement – the show will integrate music, song, dance, choruses and mass choreography as well as performances by Deborah Cox, the RB chart-topper whose range includes pop and dance music; Jonas, Montréal rocker and rising star on the international rock scene with sex appeal en masse; Sylvie Desgroseilliers, whose voice is a superb blend of power and sensitivity; and, of course, the much anticipated return of legendary Québec diva Diane Dufresne.
“The Opening Ceremony a sparkling celebration of diversity, filled with surprises” said Ms Roy. “But, it will also be infused with the spirit that fuels our mission of bringing LGBT civil rights together with LGBT athleticism.”
Mark Tewksbury, co-President of the Outgames, and Martina Navratilova, the legendary tennis champion, will take the stage to read the Declaration of Montréal. This will allow participants and spectators at Montreal’s Olympic Stadium to share in the legacy of the International Conference on LGBT Human Rights, which will hold four days of high-level discussions with international movers and shakers such as the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Ms. Louise Arbour.
