Gay trips offered to Brokeback Mountain
Tour operators are riding on the success of Oscar award winning gay cowboy movie Brokeback Mountain by offering trips to the scenic setting of the romance.
A Taiwanese travel agency has become the first to offer holidays to Fort Macleod in Southern Alberta, Canada, which was passed off as Wyoming in the film.
Tours are aimed at all sexualities but gay travellers who can prove their orientation will receive a $200 discount.
The town of Fort Macleod is reported to be divided over the prospect of large amounts of gay visitors, but Gordon MacIvor, the local economic development officer said, “Visitors to the town will be welcomed and not judged.”
Brokeback Mountain won Oscars for best director, best adapted screenplay and best original score and had previously saddled up a string of BAFTAs and Golden Globes.
