Sir Elton John and his partner David Furnish face a £10,000 bill to cover the policing of their gay wedding next week.

The pop star and his film producer boyfriend David Furnish have been in a relationship for tweleve years and are planning a relatively low-key ceremony at Windsor Guildhall. The hall was the venue for one of the year’s key weddings; the marriage of Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall.

Sir Elton is now facing a bill from the police expected to exceed £10,000 to ensure that fans do not get too close to the temperamental singer and his partner.

“Any extra policing incurred as a result of the event will not be met by the residents of the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead,” a police spokesman explained. “They will be met by the organisers.”

The day will begin with an intimate ceremony with close family and friends followed by a lavish party in the singer’s £12m home. Guest are thought to include Victoria Beckham, Joan Collins, George Michael, Elizabeth Hurley, Hugh Grant, Rod Stewart, Mick Jagger and Donatella Versace.

Last month Sir Elton revealed that American TV producers offered £6m to televise the event, but the pop star refused saying: “our relationship isn’t up for grabs. Our love is sacred to us. It doesn’t come with a price tag.”
