5:12 PM — A former German football manager has said gay men should not play football because they will be ridiculed. Rudi Assauer's comments have outraged German gay groups, with the Gay and Lesbian Federation saying they were "beneath contempt".

12:45 PM — The Catholic Church's chief exorcist has said that the Devil is at work in the Vatican. Father Gabriele Amorth, 85, says that in the Vatican, there are "cardinals who do not believe in Jesus, and bishops who are linked to the Demon".

Gibraltar court to rule on gay age of consent 10
4:50 PM — Gibraltar's Supreme Court is to rule on whether the unequal age of consent for gays violates constitutional law. The British territory has an age of consent of 16 for heterosexuals and lesbians but 18 for gay men, which contravenes European human rights law.
Gay sex scandal at the Vatican 57
11:39 AM — The Vatican has been hit by a gay sex scandal after allegations that a chorister had procured male prostitutes for a papal gentleman-in-waiting. The chorister, 29-year-old Thomas Chinedu Ehiem, was sacked after police heard him talking on a wiretap to Angelo Balducci, a Gentleman of His Holiness.

Slovakia to hold first Pride festival 9
6:59 PM — The eastern European country of Slovakia will hold a Pride festival this year. Dúhový (Rainbow) Pride will take place in Bratislava on 22nd May and is the first event of its kind in the country.

5:30 PM — France has become the first country in the world to declassify transgenderism as a mental illness. A health minister signalled the change would be made last May and this was confirmed last week by a government decree.

Irish civil partnerships bill progresses through parliament 17
4:59 PM — A bill to allow gay couples the right to civil partnerships is making progress through the Irish parliament. It was presented to parliament in December and completed its second stage in the Dail yesterday. It will now go to a committee for further scrutiny.
Italy opens first transgender prison 3
2:10 PM — Italy is to open its first prison specially for trans inmates. The building, a former halfway house for women, is in the town of Empoli in Tuscany. It will open in late March.

4:15 PM — The mayor of Moscow has repeated his claims that gay Pride marches are "satanic". Yury Luzhkov attacked gay-themed events in 2007 as "satanic" in 2007 and banned gay rights campaigners from holding such an event.

Portugal votes to legalise gay marriage 30
3:09 PM — Portugal's parliament today voted to legalise marriage for gays and lesbians. The Catholic country will be the sixth in Europe to grant same-sex couples the right to wed, although this will not include adoption rights.
