    2:28 PM — The Anglican Communion has taken action against the US Episcopalian church for breaking a moratorium on new gay bishops. Following the church's ordination of lesbian Mary Glasspool as assistant Los Angeles bishop, the Anglican Communion announced yesterday it has suspended US Episcopalians from serving on ecumenical bodies.

    5:12 PM — An estimated three million people joined Sao Paolo Pride yesterday in the world's biggest celebration of gay culture. Marchers through South America's biggest city came together to dance in the street, condemn homophobia and demand equal rights.

    4:41 PM — Anna Paquin, the Hollywood actress, has said she was bemused at the fuss around her coming out as bisexual. The X Men and True Blood star filmed an advertisement in April for gay charity The True Colors Fund. In it, she says: "I'm bisexual and I give a damn."

    2:15 PM — High school comedy Glee will gain a Christian character next season who disapproves of homosexuality. Glee writer Ryan Murphy said he wrote in the female character to rebalance "jabs" made at America's right-wing.

    5:24 PM — Golden Girls actress Rue McClanahan has died at the age of 76, her manager confirmed this afternoon. The star, who played Blanche Devereaux in the 1980s sitcom, had a massive stroke at 1am on Thursday morning.

    3:53 PM — Lifting America's ban on gay and bisexual men donating blood could provide an extra 219,000 pints a year, a report says. It also estimates that organ donations could increase by 2.9 per cent annually, meaning around 900 additional transplants could take place each year.

    5:27 PM — Gay US soldiers Dan Choi and Jim Pietrangelo entered their sixth day of a hunger strike today over the military gay ban. The pair, who chained themselves to the White House fence recently, announced last Thursday they were going on hunger strike and say they will not eat until President Barack Obama meets their demands.

    4:37 PM — Madonna has thanked her fans for supporting her call for Malawi to release a couple jailed for homosexuality offences. Steven Monjeza and Tiwonge Chimbalanga were pardoned by Malawian president Bingu wa Mutharika last week after being sentenced to 14 years of hard labour.

    11:26 AM — The Catholic Church in America has been accused of effectively barring celibate gay priests by asking new recruits a battery of deeply personal questions about their sexuality. Prospective priests are being asked the questions in an attempt to weed out those with paedophile tendencies but the church has been accused of "scapegoating" gay men in the process.
