11:26 AM — Hawaii's governor Linda Lingle has rejected a bill which would have allowed civil unions for gay couples in the state. The bill would have given both straight and gay couples the right to have their partnerships recognised with all the rights of marriage.

Google to compensate gay US workers for unfair tax laws 4
5:32 PM — Google is to pay its gay and lesbian workers extra in order to compensate them for unequal tax laws. Federal laws which do not recognise gay relationships mean that gay workers must pay an extra tax when their partners receive domestic health benefits.

No murder charge for man arrested over San Francisco Pride shooting 3
6:16 PM — A man arrested over a shooting at San Francisco Pride will not face murder charges. Ed Perkins, 20, was arrested on suspicion of the murder of 19-year-old Stephen Powell, who was shot dead on Saturday during celebrations in the city's Castro district.
Wisconsin Supreme Court rejects challenge to gay marriage and civil union ban 35
4:42 PM — Wisconsin's Supreme Court has upheld the state's ban on gay marriage and civil unions. The court was asked to examine whether a 2006 constitutional amendment was correctly put to voters.

Police name San Francisco Pride murder suspect
5:51 PM — The man suspected of killing one person and injuring two others at San Francisco Pride has been named by police. Ed Perkins, 20, is accused of shooting dead 19-year-old Stephen Powell and injuring two other people, a 27-year-old man and a 19-year-old woman who expected to make a full recovery.

11:57 AM — Angelina Jolie has said her four-year-old child Shiloh wants to be a boy. The actress gave an interview to Vanity Fair magazine, in which she discussed her eldest biological child with Brad Pitt.
US Supreme Court rules school can refuse to recognise anti-gay student group 16
10:31 AM — The US Supreme Court ruled 5-4 yesterday that a law school does not have to recognise a religious student group which bars gay students. The University of California's Hastings College of Law withdrew its recognition of the Christian Legal Society chapter unless it changed its discriminatory rules.

5:46 PM — The son of Pastor Fred Phelps, the man who founded the adamantly homophobic Westboro Baptist Church in Kansas which claims that God hates the United States for supporting gay rights, has broken his silence and begun to publicly speak about his relationships with his estranged father.
New York City celebrates 41st annual pride 2
12:33 PM — New York City was awash with marchers and revellers in their thousands yesterday, all celebrating the Big Apple's 41st annual gay pride event. One of the parade's grand marshalls was Constance McMillen, the Mississippi teenager who fought with her high school to be allowed to attend the senior prom with her girlfriend.

10:08 AM — San Francisco's 40th annual pride celebrations were marred late on Saturday night by a shooting incident in the Castro district which left a 19-year old man dead. Two other people, a man and a woman, were also hit by gunfire but are expected to make a full recovery.

5:48 PM — The organisers of Minneapolis Twin Cities Pride are awaiting a ruling from District Judge John Tunheim on their injunction to have Christian evangelists Brian and Lois Johnson banned from Loring Park where the festival is to be held.

1:19 PM — The Stanley Cup, the trophy annually awarded to the champion team of the National Hockey League, will be on display at this Sunday's Chicago Gay Pride Parade - its first appearance at a gay-themed event.

11:15 AM — The US Supreme Court ruled yesterday that those who sign referendum petitions may no longer be able to do so anonymously. In doing this, the Court rejected the claims of an anti-gay rights group, who argued the ruling went against their First Amendment protection of political expression.

12:15 PM — Lavender magazine, a gay publication based in Minneapolis-St Paul, has sent shock waves through the American gay press. Their latest cover story was written by an undercover reporter and details Pastor Tom Brock's struggles with his sexuality as told to an anonymous Catholic-run support group which claims to help gay men who are "struggling with chastity".

Toronto gay rights protesters march against G20 1
1:24 PM — Gay rights activists stormed the streets of downtown Toronto yesterday ahead of this week's G20 summit, demanding that world leaders seriously address LGBT issues. It was described by one protester as "a carnival of resistance".

11:47 AM — President Obama addressed an LGBT audience at the White House last night, assuring them that he is fully committed to repealing the Defense of Marriage Act and to other issues including same-sex visitation rights in hospitals and the repeal of the Don't Ask Don't Tell policy.
