4:08 PM — Sarah Palin's daughter used the word 'faggot' to attack someone who criticised her mother. Willow Palin, 16, told a Facebook friend that he was "so gay" and used the homophobic insult after he criticised former Alaska governor Mrs Palin's reality TV show.
US county elects first transgender judge 10
3:11 PM — Victoria Kolakowski has become the first trans person to be elected as a trial judge in the US. She was elected as a superior court judge in Alameda County, California, beating deputy district attorney John Creighton with 51 to 48 per cent of the vote.

3:10 PM — Thirteen gay rights campaigners have been arrested after handcuffing themselves to the White House fence in protest at the ban on out gay troops.

US Supreme Court denies request to lift gay military ban 6
6:01 PM — The US Supreme Court declined a request to lift the ban on out gay troops serving in the military on Friday. In the latest round of the fight to have the law repealed, Republican gay group Log Cabin Republicans asked the court to overturn a lower court's ruling that the ban should remain in place indefinitely.

4:53 PM — The American Civil Liberties Union has launched a lawsuit over the US Defence Department's policy of paying just half the usual severance pay to individuals sacked under Don't Ask, Don't Tell.
Illinois university official ‘fired’ for announcing lesbian wedding 6
3:00 PM — A lesbian official at a Catholic university in Illinois claims she was fired after announcing her wedding in a local newspaper. Laine Tadlock, 60, says that her bosses at Benedictine University in Springfield were aware that she was a lesbian but fired after she announced her marriage.

3:17 PM — Puerto Rican singer Ricky Martin says he will marry his partner when his home country legalises gay marriage. The star has not revealed the name of his long-term boyfriend, but says they would get married if they could.

2:39 PM — A private college in Michigan, US, says it has taken "appropriate action" after two students burned a gay Pride flag on campus.
Pentagon report says ‘minimal risk’ to lifting gay military ban 8
12:15 PM — A Pentagon report says that repealing Don't Ask, Don't Tell will have have minimal risk to the war effort and troops' safety, sources say. The Washington Post, which cites two sources familiar with the document, says that more than 70 per cent of the troops surveyed said the effect of lifting the ban would be positive, mixed or non-existent.

Documentary on out gay baseball player Glenn Burke 3
7:00 PM — A documentary has been produced about Glenn Burke, the only Major League baseball player to have come out as gay. Burke came out in 1982 in a magazine article after his playing career had ended. During his time in the game, he said his teammates were aware of his sexuality.
‘Zero per cent’ rate of abuse for children with lesbian parents 11
6:32 PM — A small study of children brought up by lesbian couples found that not one reported any sexual or physical abuse. The research comes from the longest-running study into lesbian parenting, carried out by the UCLA’s Williams Institute.
Repeal of military gay ban looks doubtful this year 4
4:58 PM — Repealing the US ban on gays and lesbians serving openly in the military by the end of 2010 now looks less likely. Congress will begin a lame-duck session on Monday and the White House is pushing to repeal the law.

Gay married couple may be split up after US deportation order 6
6:33 PM — A Brazillian man and his American husband may be split up after the US attorney-general refused to reverse an immigration order. Genesio Oliveira, 31, is married to Tim Coco, 49, of Massachusetts, but Mr Oliveira believes he may be sent back to Brazil within six months.
