    10:16 AM — The Illinois senate has given a green light to civil marriage legislation by 32-24 votes. Democratic Governor Pat Quinn is expected to sign the bill into law shortly, making Illinois the fifth US state to allow civil unions.

    3:53 PM — Two New York men have pleaded guilty to an anti-gay robbery which left their victim in hospital for three weeks. Daniel Rodriguez, 21, and Daniel Aleman, 27, admit robbery as a hate crime for the attack on 49-year-old Jack Price in October last year in the Queens neighbourhood.

    8:22 PM — A Pentagon report says that the ban on out gay troops in the US military can be lifted safely without too much disruption. The report, released today, said that the ban could even be lifted now, in wartime, without harming troops or the military's ability to do its job.

    12:17 PM — A gay couple who married by Skype in Texas have had their ceremony annulled. Texas residents Mark Reed and Dante Walkup decided to circumvent Texas' law against gay marriage by having a registrar in Washington DC conduct the ceremony over the internet but were told last week that this is not legal.

    10:05 AM — US spies drew up a dossier on gay Conservative minister Alan Duncan, leaked documents show. Mr Duncan, now the international development minister, was apparently of special interest to the US and is the only British MP to have been singled out so far.

    3:45 PM — Apple has apparently removed an app from its iTunes store which rails against gay marriage and LGBT rights. The app, created by a Christian group, disappeared from the online store after media attention, first reported on PinkNews.co.uk.

  • US judge says lesbians can be ‘cured’ by male soldiers 217

    Lesbians could be 'converted' in the military, Joe Rehyansky argued.

    1:37 PM — An American judge has been accused of advocating corrective rape for lesbians. Joe Rehyansky, a part-time magistrate and Vietnam veteran, wrote on conservative news site The Daily Caller that lesbians should be allowed to serve in the military because straight male soldiers could "convert" them.

    1:53 PM — US anti-gay organisations have hit back after being included on a list of 'hate groups'. The Family Research Council and National Organization for Marriage were named by a civil rights body as two of 18 groups which "demonise" gay people and propagate "known falsehoods".

    5:38 PM — Fox News has refused to broadcast an advert which calls for the end of Don't Ask, Don't Tell. The ad, by the pro-repeal Palm Center, features Canadian and Australian military leaders saying that lifting their countries' bans on out gay soldiers were a "non-event" and did not harm the military.

  • Lesbian flight nurse returns to duty as White House appeals 1

    3:39 PM — A lesbian flight nurse sacked under Don't Ask, Don't Tell is to re-join the Air Force but the Obama administration has filed an appeal against the decision. Major Margaret Witt was sacked in 2007 after 19 years of service in the Air Force and Air Force Reserves when her affair with a woman came to light.

  • Texas trans woman arrested for using female toilet 12

    3:22 PM — A trans woman in Houston, Texas, has been arrested after using a female toilet in a library. Tyjanae Moore was arrested by police last Wednesday for "knowingly entering a restroom of the opposite sex" but trans groups say her arrest was unlawful.

    5:54 PM — Apple has approved an iPhone app which calls on users to sign up to a declaration against LGBT rights and gay marriage. The app is based on the Manhattan Declaration, a manifesto released in 2009 by Christian and Catholic leaders which rails against the "erosion" of marriage.

  • Pentagon: No gay soldiers fired this month 2

    There have been no sackings under DADT in the last month

    10:46 AM — No US troops have been fired for being gay in the last month, the Pentagon has said. Last month, defence secretary Robert Gates tightened the rules on dismissals, placing the power to sack out gay troops in the hands of just three officials.
