The most recent, Raymond Chase, was a 19-year-old studying at Johnson and Wales University, Rhode Island. He reportedly committed suicide by hanging himself in his dormitory.

    2:24 PM — California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has signed a bill to remove a 'gay cure' provision from the state's laws. The 1950 law instructed California's State Department of Mental Health to investigate and research "the causes and cures of homosexuality".

According to US blog Politico, Ms Coulter told 150 attendees of the Homocon event that "marriage ‘is not a civil right – you’re not black!"

Tom "T.J." Leyden spent 15 years as a white supremacist and recruiter, campaigning against blacks, Latinos, Jews and gays before turning his back on the movement.

    11:07 AM — A new biography of Humphrey Bogart claims he slept with a thousand women, partly because he feared that he was becoming gay. 'Humphrey Bogart, the Making of a Legend' by journalist Darwin Porter claims that before the Hollywood star married actress Lauren Bacall in 1945, he had slept with an estimated 1,000 women including Bette Davis, Jean Harlow, Marlene Dietrich and Ingrid Bergman.

    5:04 PM — The pastor of one of America's largest congregations is denying that he coerced three young men into sex by offering them cars, jewellery and cash. Eddie Long, the pastor of New Birth Missionary Baptist Church in Atlanta, has frequently attacked homosexuality and has called for a national ban on gay marriage.

    1:44 PM — The US state of Florida has overturned its ban on gays and lesbians adopting children. Governor Charlie Crist announced the 3rd District Court of Appeal ruling yesterday and said the ban would end immediately, although the decision can be appealed.

    6:37 PM — The US Senate is to vote today on a bill which contains a measure to repeal the ban on out gay soldiers in the military. The measure has been added to the National Defence Authorisation Act and Democrat senators need 60 votes for it to progress to a debate on the floor.
