12:24 PM — A gay sailor who was outed has been told by a military panel that he can stay in the Navy. Petty Officer 2nd Class Derek Morado, 26 told reporters that the three-member panel apparently agreed with his lawyer's argument that Don't Ask, Don't Tell is now dead.

US report calls for study of LGBT health issues 4
5:40 PM — A major US report says that the unique health needs of lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans people should be identified. The Institute of Medicine report says that government-funded health studies should routinely ask people their sexual orientation and gender identity, just as they already ask about race and ethnicity.

Indiana Senate approves gay marriage ban bill 26
9:51 PM — The Indiana Senate has approved a constitutional amendment banning gay marriages and civil unions by 40 votes to 10. The public gallery had to be cleared after gay rights protesters shouted at politicians.

US schools warned to stop censoring gay websites 51
1:42 PM — American schools have been warned to stop censoring educational lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender websites. The American Civil Liberties Union has written to school districts in Missouri and Michigan to warn that filtering such sites violates the constitution.

Vigil for New York teen killed in anti-gay attack 21
5:50 PM — A vigil has been held for a New York teenager who was allegedly killed in a homophobic attack. Anthony Collao, 18, was attacked at a party last Saturday by a gang who allegedly shouted anti-gay slurs before kicking, punching and beating him with a metal pipe.

10:27 AM — The US state of Colorado's Senate has passed a civil unions bill. Lawmakers approved the bill by 23-12 votes and it will now go to the House.

2:30 PM — The 9th US Circuit Court of Appeal has declined to lift its stay on an order overturning California's gay marriage ban. The case looks set to drag on for many months more.
Survey: Most US Catholics support gay rights 185
11:12 AM — A study of US Catholics says they are more supportive of gay rights than the general public and other Christians. The Public Religion Research Institute study found that almost half (43 per cent) of Catholics support gay marriage and 56 per cent say gay relationships are not sinful.
