5:07 PM — A Texas man who was upset at his daughter's lesbian relationship killed her girlfriend and the girl's mother, police say. Jose Alfonso Aviles, 45, is accused of shooting Norma Hurtado, 24, and her mother Maria Hurtado, 57, at their Austin home on Monday.

2:28 PM — Another American poll suggests that just over half of voters support marriage equality. The CNN poll found that 51 per cent of the 824 adults surveyed said gay couples should be allowed to wed.

1:51 PM — The US state of Delaware has become the eighth to give gay couples the right to civil unions. The measure was approved this month by 13-6 votes in the Senate and 25-16 votes in the House.

10:25 AM — A student who lied about being the victim of a homophobic attack has been charged with filing a false report. Quinn Matney, a 19-year-old freshman at the University of North Carolina, claimed that a man shouted anti-gay abuse at him and burned his wrist.

4:27 PM — Facebook has apparently removed a photo of two men kissing for being "sexually suggestive". The image, of a gay kiss on UK soap EastEnders, was used by US writer Niall O'Conghaile to accompany a blog post about the kiss-in' held to support a gay couple who were kicked out of a pub.
US study: Gay teen suicide risk higher in conservative areas 40
10:38 AM — An American study suggests that attempted suicide rates among gay teenagers are higher in areas considered less liberal. Researchers said youths were more likely to try to kill themselves in areas without gay-supportive school programmes.

Bill could make gay history compulsory in California schools 30
5:52 PM — The teaching of gay history could become compulsory in California schools if a new bill becomes law. The bill, SB 48, was passed by the Senate today by 23 to 14 votes. Its full name is The FAIR (Fair, Accurate, Inclusive and Respectful) Education Act.

10:08 AM — US basketball star Kobe Bryant has been handed a $100,000 fine for using a homophobic slur against a referee. During Tuesday's game, the Lakers player called Bennie Adams a "faggot" when the referee judged he had committed a foul.

10:56 AM — A children's book about two gay penguins has returned to the top spot in a list of America's most controversial books. And Tango Makes Three by Justin Richardson and Peter Parnell has been on the American Library Association's (ALA) list of the most complained about books for five years.

More US schools warned about gay censorship 6
4:21 PM — The American Civil Liberties Union has written to more schools to question their filters on LGBT support websites. As part of the group's 'Don't Filter Me' campaign, it has sent letters to schools in Michigan, Texas, Pennsylvania and Virginia, asking them to stop censoring the websites.

2:52 PM — A New Jersey transgender man has been fired after his employers decided that he did not fulfil a men-only requirement of the job. El'Jai Devoureau, 39, was hired by a drug treatment centre last summer and was required to watch men giving urine samples for drug testing.

Former National Organization for Marriage strategist turns gay civil marriage supporter 17
6:52 PM — The former online strategist for the anti-gay National Organization for Marriage has defected and now says he wants to help gays and lesbians win the right to civil marriage. Louis Marinelli helped organise the US group's 2010 Summer Tour but said that during the event, the lesbian and gay activists he met "became real people" to him.
US HIV patients want right to HIV organ transplants 6
