2:05 PM — In a strongly worded leader column, The Guardian condemns Uganda's proposed law that could sentence gay people to death or leave them facing lengthy prison sentences. The newspaper says that Sweden is right to suggest that aid to the country should be cut if the law is passed.

4:01 PM — Swedish development assistance minister Gunilla Carlsson reportedly suggested that her country could cut aid funding in Uganda as a result of a proposed law on homosexuality.

Gordon Brown raises anti-gay laws with Ugandan president 24
12:32 AM — The prime minister has raised Uganda's controversial proposed laws on homosexuality with the country's president at the Commonwealth Heads of Government conference in Trinidad. Gordon Brown told Yoweri Museveni that he was opposed to laws that could result in the execution of gays.

1:42 PM — The United Reform Church has become the first major Christian denomination in the UK to criticise Uganda's proposed anti-homosexuality bill. The church said it was "appalled" at the legislation.

7:28 PM — The president of Uganda, Yoweri Museveni, has warned that European gays are "recruiting" Ugandan citizens. Speaking at the Young Achievers Awards ceremony on Saturday at the Kampala Serena Hotel, he said: "I hear European homosexuals are recruiting in Africa."
