A cross-party coalition of MSPs and some senior church leaders are supporting the campaign and a poll of the public suggests the majority would support the move.

Glasgow gay centre: funding axed and boss suspended after financial inquiry
5:51 PM — The boss of a Glasgow gay centre has been suspended from the Labour party after evidence of serious financial irregularities was uncovered. The Castro centre, headed by Labour councillor Ruth Black and her partner Jeanie McDougall, has also had its council funding of £50,000 suspended, meaning it is likely to close down.

3:38 PM — The Scottish Adoption agency has told gay couples not to be put off by the "very negative publicity" surrounding the issue of same-sex coulples adopting children. The publicity in question is believed to relate to the complaints of the grandparents of two Edinburgh-based children who were adopted by a gay couple.

2:57 PM — In her speech today, the Queen outlined the Pope's planned religious activities for his state visit in September. His visit will be the first Papal one ever in the UK, that of Pope John Paul II in 1982 being a papal one. Britain's welcoming of the Pope has not gone down well with the LGBT population.

2:23 PM — The openly gay minister of a Scottish church has seen his congregation grow since joining the church. Rev Scott Rennie, the first out gay minister to be appointed by the Church of Scotland, has had a five-per cent rise in the number of worshippers at Queen's Cross Church in the last 12 months.

5:30 PM — A Church of Scotland congregation in the Bahamas has quit the church in protest over the ordination of gay ministers. The 200-year-old parish of St Andrew’s in Nassau, the capital of the islands, decided to follow Reverend John MacLeod when he announced he would resign.

12:08 PM — A friend of 16-year-old gay student Jack Frew has been charged with his murder. Craig Roy, 17, is expected to appear in court today.
Scottish teenager ‘may have been killed for being gay’ 23
10:26 AM — The friends of a Scottish 16-year-old found dead last week say they believe he may have been killed in a homophobic attack. Jack Frew was found near a cycle path in Mossneuk, East Kilbride, last Thursday at around 7pm. His throat had been cut.
