    10:07 AM — A 20-year-old man has been charged with the murder of a retired gay lecturer in Edinburgh. He is due to appear before Edinburgh Sheriff Court today over the death of 64-year-old Roger Gray, who taught maths and statistics at Heriot-Watt University.

    11:40 AM — A Scottish teenager has been given 120 hours of community service for disfiguring a man who asked if he was gay. Gary Craig, 18, of Hawick in the Scottish Borders, headbutted and kicked the victim in the head after celebrating New Year's Eve.

    11:39 AM — The number of reported homophobic hate crimes has risen five-fold in Scotland in the last five years. Figures show that there were 666 reported incidents in 2009-10, a substantial increase from 2004-5, when just 114 incidents were reported.

    4:11 PM — A Scottish woman has been accused of tricking two women into sex by pretending to be a man. Samantha Brooks, 26, of Perthshire, is said to have posed as a man called Lee Brooks for nine years and hidden her genitals by claiming she had testicular cancer.

    10:38 AM — A teacher is to sue the Conservative Party after he was sacked as a general election candidate. Philip Lardner, who was selected to fight the North Ayrshire and Arran seat, was suspended from his job and dumped by the party after PinkNews.co.uk revealed he said that homosexuality is wrong and children should not be taught about it in schools.

    4:03 PM — A gay man has been awarded more than £13,000 in compensation after a tribunal found he had been bullied at work for his sexuality. Steven Bain said his colleagues at The Lighthouse in Glasgow, an architecture and design centre, asked him if he found the words "poof" and "queer" offensive and whether he had ever dressed as a woman.
