Man, 20, charged with murder of gay lecturer
10:07 AM — A 20-year-old man has been charged with the murder of a retired gay lecturer in Edinburgh. He is due to appear before Edinburgh Sheriff Court today over the death of 64-year-old Roger Gray, who taught maths and statistics at Heriot-Watt University.

4:15 PM — Police have confirmed that a retired lecturer found dead at his Edinburgh flat was murdered. Roger Gray is the third gay man to have been killed in the city in the last month but police say there is no evidence to link the deaths.

10:59 AM — A retired university lecturer was found stabbed to death at his home in Edinburgh on Saturday morning. Roger Gray, who was gay, was found in the hallway of his Merchiston flat after neighbours reported a gas leak.

11:40 AM — A Scottish teenager has been given 120 hours of community service for disfiguring a man who asked if he was gay. Gary Craig, 18, of Hawick in the Scottish Borders, headbutted and kicked the victim in the head after celebrating New Year's Eve.

Scotland sees huge increase in reported homophobic hate crime 12
11:39 AM — The number of reported homophobic hate crimes has risen five-fold in Scotland in the last five years. Figures show that there were 666 reported incidents in 2009-10, a substantial increase from 2004-5, when just 114 incidents were reported.

4:11 PM — A Scottish woman has been accused of tricking two women into sex by pretending to be a man. Samantha Brooks, 26, of Perthshire, is said to have posed as a man called Lee Brooks for nine years and hidden her genitals by claiming she had testicular cancer.

Former Tory candidate to sue party after being sacked for views on homosexuality 40
10:38 AM — A teacher is to sue the Conservative Party after he was sacked as a general election candidate. Philip Lardner, who was selected to fight the North Ayrshire and Arran seat, was suspended from his job and dumped by the party after PinkNews.co.uk revealed he said that homosexuality is wrong and children should not be taught about it in schools.

Gay man wins £13,000 after being bullied at work 13
4:03 PM — A gay man has been awarded more than £13,000 in compensation after a tribunal found he had been bullied at work for his sexuality. Steven Bain said his colleagues at The Lighthouse in Glasgow, an architecture and design centre, asked him if he found the words "poof" and "queer" offensive and whether he had ever dressed as a woman.

5:00 PM — The majority of Scottish people are in favour of allowing gay couples to marry, a poll suggests. According to an Angus Reid poll conducted for the Green Party, 58 per cent of respondents said they were in favour of full marriage equality.
