22 June 2006Gays are most ‘unfairly treated’ group in Northern Ireland 3 Most people in Northern Ireland have no problem with working or living near a gay person despite a consensus that lesbian, gay, and bisexual people are amongst the most unfairly treated in the country, a survey shows.The findings are part of an Equality Awareness Survey commissioned by the Equality Commission which assesses awareness of equality issues amongst the general public in Northern Ireland. -
21 June 2006Paddick snubbed for honour- newspaper claims + A newspaper is claiming that Britain's most senior gay police officer has been snubbed for a top honour.The right of centre Daily Mail claims that Brian Paddick, the Deputy Assistant Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police is furious that he has not been awarded the Queen's Police Medal in last week's Birthday Honours list.Friends of Mr Paddick have claimed that he was promised an award. -
21 June 2006EuroPride unveils gay parade route 6 EuroPride 06 today unveiled the final route for the major parade taking place through the streets of London on Saturday 1 July.The EuroPride parade is expected to be one of the biggest London has ever seen, and will feature 40 floats, around 200 costumed groups and walking bands, and thousands of individual paraders. -
21 June 2006Gay youth socially excluded in Europe 2 Young lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people across Europe face discrimination and exclusion in their everyday life, a report claims.The report, Social Exclusion of Young Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender People (LGBT) in Europe, by the International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer Youth and Student Organization (IGLYO) and ILGA-Europe claims LGBT youth experience estrangement from family, bullying and marginalisation at school, which can lead to such problems as underachievement and school drop-out, low self-esteem and mental ill-health. -
