High Court challenge of Northern Ireland’s gay adoption rules begins 4
10:00 AM — A human rights body in Northern Ireland has begun arguments at the country's High Court to reverse the ban on unmarried couples adopting children. The Human Rights Commission is challenging laws which it argues are incompatible with those in England, Wales and Scotland, and do not protect the interests of the child in question.

Man who falsely accused Louis Walsh of sexual assault charged
3:02 PM — A man who accused X Factor judge Louis Walsh of sexual assault has been charged with making false claims. Leonard Watters, 24, initially claimed that 58-year-old Walsh had groped him at the Krystle nightclub in Dublin after a Westlife concert in June.

Ugandan lesbian campaigner denied entry to UK 42
1:17 PM — A Ugandan LGBT rights campaigner has been denied entry to the UK to speak at a Northern Ireland Pride festival. Kasha Jacqueline Nabagesera, who faces death threats for speaking out for LGBT rights in her home country, was invited to open the Foyle Pride Festival in Derry next week.

Man acquitted of assault over reaction to gay bar ‘bottom touch’ 145
11:03 AM — A straight Derry man has been acquitted of assault after brushing off a man who touched his bottom in a gay bar. A judge said that Christopher Brendan Thompson had been "establishing his straight credentials" when he pushed his face into the face of the man who touched him.

Homophobia widespread in Northern Ireland workplaces 61
5:36 PM — Homophobia is endemic in Northern Ireland workplaces, a report from a gay rights organisation says. According to the Rainbow Project, more than a quarter of lesbian, gay and bisexual people have complained about homophobia at work but 70 per cent of these were not happy with how the issue was dealt with.
