11:28 AM — Labour leader Ed Miliband has released a message for World AIDS Day urging people to talk about the disease. Mr Miliband's message did not mention gay men explicitly but said that everyone should talk about HIV/AIDS and "raise awareness" of it.

David Cameron tells gay men ‘get tested for HIV’ 20
12:06 PM — Prime minister David Cameron has urged gay men to use condoms, get tested for HIV and support each other in tackling the virus. In a message for Boyz magazine for World AIDS Day, he said that HIV infection rates had increased in the last decade.

6:11 PM — London-based gay men's health charity GMFA has begun a new campaign to raise awareness of HIV. 'Count Me In' asks gay men to agree with a five-point pledge about protecting their health and not assuming they know the HIV status of other men.

11:41 AM — Eight contestants will fight to the chance to be crowned Mr Gay China when the country's first gay pageant gets underway this week. China only decriminalised homosexuality in 1997 and it was seen as a mental illness until 2001.

Mexico City becomes first Latin American capital to legalise gay marriage 22
12:47 PM — Mexico City has become the first capital city to legalise gay marriage in South America. Same sex couples have been allowed to enter civil partnerships since 2006 but the new legislation will give gay couple equal rights when it comes to family social security benefits and loans.

Chinese government backs first official gay bar 11
11:01 AM — China's first official gay bar has opened after a three-week delay sparked by intense media attention. Opening on Saturday evening, the bar is situated in the tourist town of Dali in the southwestern province of Yunnan. It is the first venue of its kind to receive government backing.
