11:30 AM — The Pullen Memorial Baptist Church has said it will not hold weddings for straight couples until the state enacts equal marriage legislation. The state recently approved plans for a referendum on introducing a constitutional ban on gay marriage.

10:33 AM — North Carolina's House of Representatives have approved a measure for a voter referendum on a gay marriage ban. Although the US state does not currently recognise gay marriage, Republicans are seeking a constitutional ban on the practice, which would prevent courts from ruling for marriage equality.
