1:50 PM — A trans woman from the US state of Illinois is suing her employers for barring her from using the women's toilet. Meggan Sommerville, of Oswego, has filed two charges of discrimination with the Illinois Department of Human Rights.

4:21 PM — BBC comedy Russell Howard's Good News is under fire from transgender campaigners who say a recent sketch ridicules a "vulnerable minority". Trans Media Watch said that the sketch, based on the story of a Thai airline hiring trans women, shows trans people as "objects of ridicule [and] physical disgust."

Trans woman loses legal battle for breast implants 34
11:54 AM — A trans woman has lost her legal battle to have breast implants funded by the NHS. The 59-year-old patient, known as C, challenged a decision by West Berkshire Primary Care Trust (PCT) not to provide the money but the Court of Appeal ruled today that the PCT was entitled to make the refusal.

5:57 PM — LGBT campaigners are calling on Honduran authorities to fully investigate the murders of six transgender women in just 60 days. According to Human Rights Watch, the first death was on November 29th and the latest took place on January 17th.

4:11 PM — A Scottish woman has been accused of tricking two women into sex by pretending to be a man. Samantha Brooks, 26, of Perthshire, is said to have posed as a man called Lee Brooks for nine years and hidden her genitals by claiming she had testicular cancer.

2:03 PM — A new survey of more than 7,000 trans people in the US says that 41 per cent have tried to kill themselves. The research, carried out by the National Center for Transgender Equality and the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force, also found than 19 per cent had been refused medical care because of their trans status.

3:11 PM — Victoria Kolakowski has become the first trans person to be elected as a trial judge in the US. She was elected as a superior court judge in Alameda County, California, beating deputy district attorney John Creighton with 51 to 48 per cent of the vote.
