1:04 PM — A gay couple have circumvented Texas' ban on gay marriage by marrying over Skype. Mark Reed and Dante Walkup used the internet software to link to Washington DC, where a registrar conducted the ceremony.

Gay dad ‘forced out’ by US Scouts 29
4:50 PM — The father of a nine-year-old says he was forced to give up a leadership role in the Scouts because he is gay. Jon Langbert of Dallas, Texas, is openly gay and says he was given a 'leader' t-shirt by the Scouts group last year which he wore with pride.

5:24 PM — After a spate of suicides among gay US teenagers, people across the world will wear purple tomorrow to honour their memory. More than 1.3 million people have pledged on Facebook to mark 'Spirit Day', which was created by Canadian teenager Brittany McMillan.

10:20 AM — A private Christian school in Texas has refused admission to the daughter of a lesbian couple. The school say their reason for the refusal is that they base their enrollment policies on the "clear teaching of the Christian faith".

Annise Parker elected first out gay mayor of Houston 1
11:19 AM — Annise Parker, an out lesbian, has been elected mayor of Houston, Texas. The vote makes the city the largest in the US to elect an openly gay mayor. Parker won against city attorney Gene Locke by 53.6 per cent of the vote.
