    12:16 PM — A London football fan who shouted homophobic abuse at a Brighton football match has been formally cautioned after discussing the incident in an online forum. The 18-year-old was warned verbally by Sussex Police after he shouted abuse at Brighton and Hove Albion fans following a match on 6 November.

    1:21 PM — Atheist author and journalist Christopher Hitchens died last night, aged 62, at a hospital in Texas after suffering from pneumonia brought on by oesophageal cancer. In 2009, Hitchens, a vocal supporter of gay rights, revealed in his memoirs he had gay liaisons at Oxford with men who later became Tory politicians.

The West Wing and Wicked star has been praised for supporting equality and last year, defended her Promises, Promises co-star Sean Hayes after an article said he couldn't play a straight man.
